I took these pictures in the garden yesterday and to~day between the rain storms ~
I love Violets can remember as a child going into the woods to gather them to take a bunch home for Mum ~
They are such a delicate and tiny flower felt tempted to pick some but didn't as I am sure they will last longer in the ground ~
They seem to be appearing everywhere out the front ~ oddly enough none in the back garden ~
Tom is round today fitting a new fence along one side of the garden and cutting back the trees ~ the fence there is very low at the moment and Barney who always thinks the grass is greener on the other side will try to join our next door neighbours dog Brandy ~
They always growl at each other so don't know what would happen if they actually met ~
Lyn is tea and Coffee maker today so shall take my empty cup through to see if I can have another one ~

I have just ordered some sweet violets online to plant in the garden. Maybe too late for blooming this year but I can look forward to next. They were such a favourite with my Gran and my Mum, I used to buy them bunches in the days when there were violet sellers. I shall be tempted to pick but will resist and like you, I think they last longer in the ground.

Lovely entry ,I love violets for the reasons Jeannette just stated and can you remember the programme 'In Town Tonight ' a voice in the opening anouncement wouls say 'violets lovely sweet violets '..we also had a japonica that trailed a fence much like yours Oh happy memories today ,....Jan xx

Hi Ally, I`ve never had violets and I`m not sure I`ve even seen them before. I wonder why not? hmmm.... I do like japonica, very pretty indeed, definitely my kind of plant. :o)

The photos are colorful and the flowers description by name is new to me. I have a plenty high fence for Salty and he is getting great exercise. He's not complaining about not being in the house. He was left in this morning because it started raining. The first time I leave he will start barking I'm sure. He won't continue on like he did when I first got him though. mark

Pretty flower pictures. I love lilacs, hyacinths and anything purple. lol Our neighbors yard is overtaken with dandelions and it has spread to our walk and across the road in the edge of that neighbors yard, even some in our rock garden. Everywhere else, our yard on the other side of the drive and all the neighbors yards are just pretty and green. I don't know what they did different or didn't do. It's strange and I'm sure there have been a few unchoice words toward them. People around here don't care much for dandelions.
Ummm English tea with half hot cream and a little sugar. Oh what memories.

I loved the picture of the Japonica. It really has that "Japanese-ee" look doesn't it? I think you've inspired me to work on my flower pictures from over the years, another of my endless list of projects but, I think you've helped me move it up to first priority.
I also really like the little violets in the gravel. It reminds me of the little tiny flowers that grow in the gravel washes of the desert. They are nearly impossible to see until one gets down and really looks at the ground and there they are, eensy weensy little daisy shaped and poppy shaped flowers the size of a peppercorn on tiny stems peeking up from the sandy gravel. Amazing.
