Visited friends a while back Christine is totally blind and has been since birth- - Ivan is partially sighted - and uses a white stick and is registered Blind.
Christine is a telephonist at a big bank in the city.
Ivan is a qualified Engineer - and builds Automatic wrapping machinery.
He is visited at his workplace and any new technology to help him in his work is passed on to him...
They both used to live on the same road as I did when I lived in Norwich..
When we arrived at their house - first we had to be introduced to Christines guide dog, A beautiful big Golden Labrador - (Her other guide dog had died, and we had not met the new one). but he seemed to approve of us - and let us in..
We chatted about work and other things that were going on at the time, -
Ivan poured us a drink - and we chatted some more.
At the time they were redecorating their bath room, and got on to the Colours - and the two of them were arguing about what colour they wanted - Christine said she didn't want Green and Ivan didn't want blue
It was so hard to realise they are blind - I asked Why she didn't want green - her reply "Because there are too many shades of green she wouldn't be sure what green they had got"....(How can she even begin to know what colours are)
Her Beautiful guide dog laid at her feet the whole evening.
We had a lovely time and I came away feeling refreshed - and thankful that they are so happy.

a world we will never know I guess.......
Don;t we take so much for granted ?There was me waffeling the other day about wether I liked green or not ,it makes you feel so humble ,and thankful that we at least can see the different shades of a colour ,great entry Ally ........Jan xx
We should feel really grateful that we have our sight so many things we take for granted, its only when we read something like your friends have that it makes us truly grateful, funny them both wanting different colours and not being able to decide...... Love Jeanx
We do take things for granted - can't imagine what life is like. But glad they are Happy together!
I was a Telephonist all my working life also.

Lovely entry today and enjoyed reading about your friends we take so much for granted these days don't we. Love Joan.
What a lovely entry. How nice that your friends are just like anybody else, they do not let their handicaps get in the way, I am sure you will understand what I mean and I can see why you felt uplifted.

What a lovely entry :o) doesn't matter who or how we are we all have our own tastes and can clash about it...Must say i don't like green much but i am going to put up with it in my flat as mikey finds it very calming and relaxing Caff xxx
I am fascinated that Christine and Ivan can argue about colour...and the shades of colour. Lovely. I hope they select a colour that suits them both.
Hi Ally, it sounds as though you are describing my friend Chris. She too is blind but has a tiny bit of sight that allows her to see shapes and some shades of light. We usually meet walking the dogs, Jake gets on with her two retired guide dogs and they run around the fields together. I`m glad you enjoyed your visit to your friends. :o)

Hi Ally
Thanks for sharing your visit with your friends...Isnt it nice to have wonderful friends like that.
Take Care,Melodie
It has been said that different colours give off different vibes. It's nice that they can differ on something like colour which Christine can never see. We do take our sight for granted, I couldn't imagine living in a world I couldn't see. Jeannette.
It makes me feel so good to hear of people who can except difficulties and go right on with their life. Makes me wonder if I could do the same. I hope I could. Paula
They sound like lovely people. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Tina http://journals.aol.com/onemoretina/Ridealongwithme
Sorry to read that the guide dog died. What a wonderful purpose for a dog to serve. Labrador retreivers are good natured dogs. Amazing that they both have active and responsible jobs. I would choose the blue, as I have always liked blue. mark
It is amazing how gifted the blind are.
We take so much for granted. Like all the colours for example.
Your friends appear to have a wonderful life.
Those guide dogs are simply amazing. And intelligent to boot!
