Tap Tap at the window

Have you ever been awakened by tapping noises ~ in what seemed like the middle of the night ~

I could hear this noise but was not fully awake and tried to shut it out as I was not ready to wake up yet ~

But the tapping got louder and sounded more desperate as the minutes ticked by

So dragging myself out of bed ~ put on my dressing gown ~ and looked at the clock ~ could it really be 7am ~ the curtains were drawn so didn't see the Sun shining outside until I opened them ~

The Tapping was still going on and  was coming from the little sitting room ~

as I opened the door could see this Jackdaw hammering at the window ~ he saw me and took off ~ I think the sight of me probably scared him as much as he had scared me ~

I realized  what it was after ~ (What amazed me was Nin nor Barney came rushing through ~ good guard dogs they turned out to be lol)

He was after the little red crystal heart that adorns one of the windows ~ I have moved it now as I think he may come back and try to get it again ~

And I do have an Alarm clock to wake me if I need it ~

Jackdaws will do that won't they, same as magpies! A few years ago when I had a house I was woken one night at 2am by a banging on the window. I gingerly went down to see what it was.......I found one of my four cats sitting on the window ledge scratching her ear furiously with her elbow banging against the glass. I was so relieved it wasn't the madman it sounded like!! Jeannette xx

Brought back, albeit vaguely, memories
of the fine poem that almost goes 'tap
tap tap...riding riding up to the old inn door.'
Nah, I have my Poe mixed with The Highwayman.
Well, I'll go back to sleep and see if that helps.
I've heard of wearing one's heart, btw, on one's
sleeve, but not in one's window! Heck, why not?!

I think that Jackdaws are a bit like Magpies and love shinny things to steal. Have a nice day. Love Joan.

Hi Ally,  Jackdaws just love anything shiny so he might be back to see if the red heart is still there,  I`ll bet it made you jump when you saw him!  Shame on Nin and Barney, I`ll bet they were snoring their heads off ....lol! :o)

Lol, I don't blame Nin and Barney, some of those jackdaws can get pretty darn big. B. x

Oh Ally, your yard is so pretty.  Can I come and set up a tent and camp out for a few days?  Yes, a lot of birds are attracted to red objects.  I know the experts always advise red flowers and such to attract hummingbirds.  I have a Japanese Red Quince bush in the back and when it was in bloom earlier, the hummingbirds were all over it.  Have a good Sunday evening.    Linda in WA

That's amazing!  I'm glad you moved the heart before that poor bird did brain damage trying to get at it.  They are so persistent when they want something.  This is my first visit to your journal.  If you'd like a peek at mine, email me and I will add you as a reader.  If you read enough already, LOL, it's OK, too.   Kathy

How funny!  I'm a little afraid of tapping on the windows though after watching that movie Salems Lot when I was a kid.  The vampires would tap on the window and hipnotize their victims into letting them inside. lol  That movie scared the bejeezies out of me. : )  Hugs and GBu, Shelly

Hi Ally,
This is so funny, though I don't think I would have had the courage ,to rise and  find out what it was.Jackdaws are like Magpies for that kind of thing.I actually once put some shiny object on my Bird bath one time, and watched from my window the Magpie come along and take it!!!! So this brought back memories of my gardens I used to have.May I also say your garden is lovely, and so much space how wonderful.Nin and Barney obviously were too content to even bother, about what was happening. LOL!!! interesting entry I enjoyed that one!!!
Hope there's no more strange noises early morning.
Regards Astoriasand.

when I lived in Tennessee for a year
a bird used to bang against our bedroom window
all I could think of was that it saw
some beads that were hanging
on my dresser mirror
I have heard knocking at my door
since I moved back here to Michigan
it happened a couple times
no one was there
it happened after my Dad passed away
I know it was him :)
