Dad ~and another road works hold up

We went for a drive yesterday and got held up in more roadworks ~ you can tell how long we were there the chap in the car in front of us got out and took his greyhound for a walk it took us 45 minutes to move about 2 miles ~

another fishing tale ~ on one occassion when Dad and Dick went fishing ~ this was again at Thorpe Green ~ it was a winters day and fishing had been a bit sparse ~ Dad had got his line caught up in a tree several times ~ so Dick would go over and give him a hand to get it down ~ somehow while retrieving the line from the tree the hook went through Dad's lip ~ it was a barbed hook so Dick went to his fishing basket to get a pair of pliers with the intention of cliping the barb off so Dad could pull the hook stem through without any pain ~ I don't know what he thought Dick was going to do with those pliers but he wasn't going to have any part of it and pulled the Hook plus the barb through his lip ~ it was very painful but my Dad was the best and biggest catch of the day that day !!!

Looking out of the window the other day noticed there were 3 woodpeckers on the feeders only managed to photo 2 of them as the other one flew away ~ don't know if this is unusual ~

Thank you sara 'for my name tag'

Ouch!! To the roadworks and the fishing story. I've been fishing twice in my adult life and that was twice too often, lol.  B. x

I shuddered at the thought of your dad pulling the hook from his lip! Sorry you got held up in the roadworks, on a hot day too! Your woodpeckers are so pretty, never seen two together! Jeannette xx

Road works Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! They make you scream Ally. This is the Norm in West Yorkshire when I visit my two sons.Almost every road you turn down, you are waiting, and in a queue. So frustrating too when like you, one is  going for a nice scenic ride.
Haaaaaaa!!!!!!! The fishing tale is so funny.Glad they wern't doing the old scottish kettle fishing,or Dad might have come to a worse fate and ended up getting cooked on the riverbank LOL!
Take Care Astoriasand.

Did the lip heal okay? Years
later when you kissed him could
you feel the scar? Ha ha ha ha.
You can't take me anywhere, ha!
Motoring, I remember from childhood,
was a fine way to be together outdoors.
Not so much anymore, except in rural
preserves such as where you live.

I think your Great Spotted woodpecker picture is super and very unusual you must have a pair nearby that they have found an easy place to feed and they will  eat you out of house and home.  The fishing hook story made me cringe on that must have been sore.  My parents golden cocker Rory got one in his eyelid once and that was bad too but we got it out with the pliers maybe he did not see them coming.  Love Joan.

Hi Ally, hope you feel better now. Your dad sounds a real case! I bet you wondered what was going to happen next when they went off together! lol The woodpeckers were lovely I can't even remember the last time I saw one. Linda xx

Oh, Ally, I bet the bloke with the greyhound got there faster!  Just think how it would have looked to onlookers, Dick going at your dad's mouth with pliers!  He might have been pulling teeth!  What a funny place to have a dental prctice.
