Ever since Joy and me were little, Mum used to make our clothes..and they always had to be the same, as you can see even into adolescene the skirts and cardies are the same...
There is only eighteen months between the two of us and we were and still are great friends.
I will never forget Roger - he would follow us to School and later to Work - we used to hide in the Market stalls trying to evade him coming with us.
When we arrived at our destination thinking we had evaded him - there he would be wagging his tail, as if it was all a great game.
Then one of us would have to take him home shut the door and hurry back...I don't think we had the sense to do this before we left home, or perhaps we enjoyed the game as well.
There wasn't as much traffic about as there is today - so he always came home from his adventures safe and sound...Sometimes carrying a marrow bone someone had given him. or perhaps he had dug up from somewhere, he had no intention of parting with it to anyone. but would eventually bury it in the garden.
Chapel Field was his favourite haunt and he would spend lots of time there ....many a time the Park Keeper would walk him home - as we lived one short street away from the park, I think the Park Keeper knew he would get a cup of tea and a sandwich when he returned him...
The picture is taken in Chapel Field Gardens ..which was one of our favourite places as well....
Thank you Sandra for the Ally tag..

Hi Ally, my mum used to dress us all the same too. crewcut hair, grey short trousers and, beige jumpers (made by mum) and mauve ties. Even my sister was dressed similar, except she had a grey skirt and no crewcut, lol. At the time we hated being dressed the same, but now I treasure those photos.

Hi Ally, you and Joy were beautiful young ladies, stunning actually! How sweet Roger was too, the streets as you said were safer then, a dog wouldn`t stand a chance on his own today. What a nice park Keeper you had back then, I wish ours had been as nice, he used to chase us kids out of the park, let alone any poor dog who happened to stray onto his territory...lol! :oO

I probably couldn't adequately express to you, how much I enjoy viewing your photo archives, and reading about your joyful experiences. You describe them so pleasingly. You really brighten some of my days, Ally.
Thanks for sharing. I love it, dear. [:)]

Two pretty young ladies and the doggie story is nice to. Love your journal. Paula
Love the photo, it's very similar to one my mum has of her and her sister. They were close in age too and are wearing the same clothes and hairstyle in their picture, looked very smart too just like you and your sister. I lived very near a lovely park when I grew up and have been able to move to same area with my children hoping they could enjoy it as much as I did growing up. Unfortunately, a minority of mostly teenagers seem intent on spoiling it for the rest of us, vandalising the park just for their pleasure. It's mindless. Enjoyed the trip down memory lane, thanks x
My mum used to knit me jumpers, the neck was always so tight it used to nearly rip my ears and nose off putting them on and taking them off!! Lovely story about Roger. Jeannette.
What a lovely little story about Roger.(.the dodger, by the sound of it!!) I could just see you both trying to hide from him amongst the stalls. Great photograph ...you are so alike I thought at first glance you were twins. Eve
My mum made our clothes and she was excellent at it but i really hated being dressed the same as my little sister...she's 5 years younger than me so it really began to get on my nerves when i hit my teens LOL...I always swore blind i wouldn't dress any kids of my own in exact same clothes and i haven't...they do wear similar but not exact same...Mum and my sisters know this so when they bought them stuff when younger they would buy the same but different colour argghh Caff xxxx lovely pic btw you both are so pretty
what a great picture i bet they thought you were twins

Yall were so pretty! I love the dog story! Sneaky little bugger he was!
Its lovely to have a sister you get on with. I know I love mine very much.
That's a lovely photo Ally, and it is clear. We had a lot of hand me downs as I grew up so although we weren't dressed the same I did get to wear the same eventually of those above me and the same for those below lolol. Rache xx
The photo of you and your sister show what beauties you both were as young women. The story about your faithful canine is a great story of a more simple time in history. My dog before Salty used to stick around home always until he began "camping out" next to a neighbors female dog in heat my neighbor told me. He died of liver cancer shortly after that. He had a rough life and was someone's escaped or "dumped" hunting dog. He ate rabbit carcasses even when he had food at home, which is how he survived without a home in the isolated country area he was brought from. I live in a country area with little traffic, but the area he was brought from is extremely sparse of human habitation. I worry about Salty even though he is neutered, getting into trouble or a small chance of him getting hit by a car. I am going to get dental toothpaste for him at the Veterinarians because I saw on TV how their teeth can promote health problems such as liver disease. It is fun to pretend to take his bone from him as he make a "ferocious" growl thinking he is a mean dog when he is a silly laborador! lol mark
