Barney hiding the remote control between his front legs.

As you can see Barney is having a busy day....the remote lays near his front legs..

Grandson Tom came round yesterday, and took me for a drive....Amber my g.g.daughter sat in the back seat...

From the time we left home she did not stop talking...and I noticed some of the expressions she was using.

Bear in mind she does watch childrens TV on sky and lots of these come from the U.S.A.

Nappies are now Diapers...Rubbish is now Trash or Garbage...Tomato's are now Tomaytoes.....Garage with a total American twang.

The thing that struck me the most is when she speaks she actually sounds American...

Maybe it has something to do with ancestry - as Tom my Grandson is a decendant of The Pilgrim Fathers (on his other Grandmothers side her name was Norris before she married - and she is French). one of the people who comes to mind is Hetty Green, known as the worlds meanest woman...and also the name Grinell....it is all very interesting

Ha..pics are sooo sweet. How old is Amber and whose nappies (diapers) was she talking about? I love her name, I wonder if  she would swop for mine? Great talking point  for Tom and Amber to have with such interesting descendants.  Eve

I suppose in 500 years, all peoples will sound the same when they talk.  I love to go to tourist attractions and just sit on a bench and hear all the different accents walking by.  Disneyland & Victoria BC are two places where I've done that.  Even here in the US, there are different accents between  parts of this country.  Some from the deep South east and say Boston, Mass...I can barley understand. That Barney looks like I feel.... Linda

Barney looks like he knows where it's warmest and he has to have the remote, you can't expect him to keeping getting up to switch channels!! Interesting that Tom's descendants were the pilgrim fathers, I went to Plymouth, Massuchussetts last year and went on the Mayflower in the harbour. I also went to the Plimouth plantation nearby, the place is an open air museum with the kind of houses the pilgrims built. If you like I'll email the photos to you to show him. Jeannette.

What did Hetty do to earn that title? It's great that you have been able to trace your ancestors back like that...Sandi http://journals.aol.com/sdoscher458/LifeIsFullOfSurprises

Hi Ally,  Poor Barney, you must really work him hard for him to be so tired...lol!  Typical male though, hogging the remote!  That`s very interesing about the Pilgrim Fathers connection, how exactly DID Hetty Green gain her reputation?   I remember Danny as a young teenager trying to speak with an American accent, of course it sounded dreadful but he thought it made him COOOOL....lol! :o)))

Enjoyed photos of Barney.   Your great grand daughter must be getting the American speech from TV.    mark

Children will pick up other's language, they're like sponges aren't they?, absorbing everything.  I remember when my son, who's 18 now was about 3 or 4yrs playing in the garden with his friend and shouted to me that he wanted a 'tinny'!  I was watching Neighbours and Home and Away religiously then and he must have picked it up from there although it took me a while to realise what he wanted!
Lovely dog you have :)

Your Barney is quite the character...too cute!
I bet your great grand daughter surprised you too...with all the different expressions.  Little ones do pick so much.

That was an interesting little trail of heritage you laid out there...Old Hetty...her name still pops up now and then. I did a report on her in school a LONG time ago...the world's richest miser, LOL.

Glad you had a good day, but my apologies for your GG's American, LOL. We have murdered the King's English!

Children are so flexible, aren't they?  Within two weeks of moving to Colorado, I noticed how less southern my daughter sounded, lol.

Blessings!~

P.S.  That is a funny pic of Barney!
