The water feature

It has been a lovely sunny day today and have spent a lot of time in the garden ~ didn't accomplish much gardening though ~ Tom and Cress dropped in for lunch and we had a nice Buffet ~

The other day I had the Pressure washer out and was having a go at cleaning the patio ~ I did intend to clean the water feature but my hands hurt so much from holding the handle down I never got round to it ~

Today Lyn was pottering about and called me to come have a look at what was in the water feature ~ Lyn was amazed to see tadpoles in the water ~ the only water in there was from when it rained and there wasn't much of that  ~ I told her I didn't think they were tadpoles but gnat lavae ~

She was most disappointed as she was hoping to watch them grow into frogs ~ I could understand her thinking they were tadpoles as they have small tails just like tadpoles ~ but only time will tell ~ we will either have frogs or get bitten by gnats ~ think I will take the pressure washer up the garden tomorrow and give it a through clean ~

The two little bird box's on the front of the workshop are occupied by Bluetits ~ and they are so busy in and out all the time ~

Nice to hear you enjoyed a sunny day in the garden, it's been overcast here and we've had showers.  I like the water feature, you see on some of these gardening programmes that they avoid washing such garden ornaments, to age them and make them look more authentic.  It will be interesting to see if you have got tadpoles, look forward to finding out!  xx

Hi Ally,

What a nice water feature...I wonder what`s living in there?  I hope it`s not nasty gnats,  I suppose you`ll find out when they hatch.  Glad you had a nice buffet with Tom and Cress.  :o)

Ally
I know what you mean when you say holding the handle of the pressure washer makes you hands hurt.  I have to use a pressure washer at the marina from time to time and it makes my hands hurt, too.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the black things in the water feature really are tadpoles. Your garden really sounds like a nice spot to spend time in.

It is raining here this morning.    I just stood at the door and let Salty out holding onto the rope.    He decided to come back in after standing in the rain and cool temp.    It says 65F on my window thermometer.    I enjoyed seeing the fish on the bird bath/water feature.    Those specs seem to be to large for gnat larvae?   I am glad you enjoyed your sunshiney day.    mark

I love frogs. Hope that is what it will be for your Lyn. Here we hatch mosquitoes in our bird bath so have to be careful to keep clean water in it. Paula

Such a pretty water feature. Just wondering how frogs could have got up there so it does sound more like gnat larvae. This is the first year in about 30 we have not had frogs breed in our pond, wonder if the cold winter did for them.

"Water Feature," hmmm, never heard that
expression before.  Can't even speculate on
the life forms found therein; I flunked Botany
twice, and doubt I could have done any better
in zoology. At least if they are frogs-to-be
you won't have to fuss with mosquito rings
when gnats fly in your eye. You're a Naturalist!

I envy you having a water feature because, in the house we have left, there was not enough room to have a water feature.

In the new house, now we are settling in, we intend to have a  feature but we are thinking of haveing one that works off the sun.

I hope your feature gives you many years pleasure.

By for now,

John.
