Mundesley

Picture is of Mundesley Cliffs and beach - when we were children Mum and Dad  would often take us there for a days picnic....We would walk from our home in North Walsham a small Village in Norfolk...

I with brothers and sisters would play at the top of the cliffs - my brother Ivor and I were the youngest of the family so we were the two that got chased when playing tag.

Probably because we couldn't run as fast as the others.

While being chased I ran as fast as my little legs would carry me,  and being too near the edge of the cliff and running too fast I fell over the edge and ended up at the bottom of the cliff. just stopping before the concrete steps that took you onto the Sand.

I cannot recall any of the events that followed this fall,  only to be reminded of it from time to time by the family. That I knocked myself out for a couple of days and when I came to I threw up over everything and anybody who was near by.

I do remember having a hammock in the garden where I would swing for hours on end. recuperating from my injuries.

If ever I did anything Stupid or said any thing  that didn't make sense - it was always put down to the fall......So I got away with quite a lot of misdemeanours.....

And I did have an excuse for all the stupid things I ever did.....

I'm so glad that you survived that fall, Ally
Have you ever been to Blackpool?
(I think that's what it's called)

You were very lucky to survive. I bet the family felt awful and must have been so worried.  Still, at least you had a good excuse lol

Scary!!  Not you, the fall ;o)
That must have been terrifying, especially for your family, as you couldn't remember.  Trust you to turn it to your advantage in the end though!!  I say and do an awful lot of stupid things, and have nothing at all to blame it on!

This is funny to me because my sister ten years older then me dropped me on my head in front of the fire place when I was a baby. They always attributed everthing concering me to being dropped on the head. lol Paula

Lord I thought I was lucky, when I was two years old I sat against a screened window, it gave way and I fell I landed on an overhang, if I hadn't stopped rolling it would of been a two story drop. But yours looks so high...I get grey hair just looking at it.....Sandi http://journals.aol.com/sdoscher458/LifeIsFullOfSurprises

Wow, Ally .... that was quite a fall !  Glad to hear that all ended well.  And it is nice to have an excuse now and then, isn't it ? lol  I blame the fact that my father dropped me out of a basket when I was an infant.  Sometimes the excuse works.... sometimes it doesn't !  Thanks for sharing ..... I was knocked out for a short time, but it had a dramatic effect me.   That must have worried the family as you were out for several days.   That was quite a tumble.   mark

Hello Ally
Wow, what a dramatic picture of the cliffs, and that lovely little old house, hope they don't launch that little boat from there!!     And as for falling over the edge..... eek!!  My grandmother would have said' i hope that knocked some sense into you!' .....but seriously tho, you were a very lucky little girl that day.   Oh, and love the idea of swinging in the hammock to recuperate.

Well, well, I'm glad thAt you made it through that little disaster, otherwise I'd have never known you! That's one scary tale. From the looks of it, you had one tremendous fall.

Only, it makes me a little sad...I haven't figured out MY excuse yet, LOL. Maybe I should take a fall?

Thank you for reminding me about Norfolk, what a wonderful place.

My family and I visited the area once, and intended stopping over at my wife's aunty's - she was not really my wife's aunty but that is the name we all knew her by.

To cut a long story short, our holiday accommodation was so bad that we walked out and phoned my wife's aunty to tell her that we were on our way to see her.

When we arived, aunty said that there was no need to go home for she had aranged for us to stay at her friend's house.  We took this all over Norfolk with us.

The lady, sadly now 'passed away' explained to us that she had not had a holiday for years and we offered to have her at our small home for the week.

I will write all this in a journal one day, but all the good lady wished to see was the workings at a Pit head.

When I asked her why she wanted to see a Mine, she said that her brother had been a Bevin Boy and had explained to her all about the Mines and the generosity mining village people.  She had a wonderful time with us.

Thank you for the memory jog but more important, I am glad that you made a full recovery from your fall.

By for now,

John.
