My Birdbrained feathered friend and other things

First I must tell you about my encounter with a Thrush ~ we have had some very windy days and I noticed that the wind had blown the lid of one of the bird feeders ~ I saw a bluetit go in and help himself to a whole peanut and turned round in the feeder and flew away ~

I thought to myself that if a bigger bird tried to do that it may be in trouble ~ but never thought much more about it ~ until I glanced out of the window and couldn't make out what was in the bird feeder ~ so went outside to have a closer look

When I got there I saw this Thrush head down and trapped ~ I lifted the feeder up and tipped out the peanuts hoping the bird would follow ~ but Oh NO ~ it's claws were trapped amongst the wire mesh ~ I couldn't move the wire so called Lyn ~ she took hold of the feeder and just broke it apart ~ it was soldered  and I don't know where she got the strength to break it open ~ but she did and the bird flew away and didn't seem any the worse for it's experience ~

Toby is a very young puppy and we Baby sat him last night as his owner was admitted into hospital ~ she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on July 12th but was having problems so they took her back into hospital ~

I'll tell you that little puppy played hard for 5 minutes at a time then slept for 10 minutes ~ and his teeth were like little needles ~ just look at my arm to see the cuts and scratches :o)

To tell the truth we enjoyed having him ~ and his mistress was allowed home late last night so he was picked up and reunited with her ~ Toby has a broken leg you probably can see his cast ~ but belive you me it do'es not stop him from playing ~

Hello Ally, Lovely to hear from you.  What smashing photos of the cheeky squirrel,  they manage to reach the bird food how ever much you try to stop them! Well done to Lynn for rescuing the thrush, I`m sure he/she was very grateful to her at the time. :o)   Toby is so sweet, do you know how he managed to break his poor little leg? I do remember just how sharp a puppies teeth are, it`s just a shame that they don`t...lol! :o)

What great pictures!  Who could help falling in love with little Toby?  He's a heart stealer for sure.  I hope his leg mends okay.  I love the shots of the squirrel.  We love watching them in our yard and leave a tidbit or two for them from time to time.  Your squirrel looks quite determined.  Thank goodness you were home to see the thrush caught in the feeder.  I'm glad Lyn was able to free it, but now you must shop for a new feeder, I'll bet.  I really enjoyed this entry!  :)

Wow, that's strange that a bird would let itself get into a predictament like that.  Poor thing, I bet it was terrified. I'm glad you & Lyn were able to set it free.  Those pesky squirrels...I keep finding peanuts in my hanging baskets.  I quit giving them peanuts years ago so it must be someone nearby.  Puppies and kittens are like two year old children...so much energy.  Wish it could be bottled so us that are older could have some of it.   Linda in Washington state

OH Happy Birthday Ally! Hope it was a nice birthday. We used to have so many squirrels into the feeders at the old place. They would really chew them up badly. Being in the open now we don't have to worry about any squirrels. Haven't had a one since we have been here and the birds can eat in peace. Toby is a cutie pie...I bet he was a rambunctous little pup..I love puppies. Hope his owner will be alright now and be able to spend time at home with her new baby. The fruit trees are wonderful. Ian would like to have some growing here, but we haven't gotten around to that yet.

Birthday wishes Ally.  I love ginger cake.
We lost a coal tit on a bird feeder last year; its tiny claw got wedged between two wires.

Hi there!
I imagine Lyn is a great one to have around in an emergency! Her response to the Thrush's situation was quite heroic.
I see you got to visit with a "Toby" as well. My kids' dog is a fellow Toby and he was here for an extended visit. I have video which I hope to post!

Lovely pictures as always. Loved the squirrel shots!

What a love Toby looks.  Was it hard to part with him?  Glad the thrush was ok.  There's a lesson to us all there I think
